Ahmed Albeity: Quadrapeligic equipment and stem cell treatment
Ahmed Albeity, our first medical fundraiser recipient,is a young man from Tanzania who was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a diving accident. Ahmed had been bedridden for a few years and was badly in need of a specialized wheelchair that could help him move around more easily and ease the development of bedsores.
We started out as fundraising drive on Facebook that we had raised enough cash to buy him a much needed quadriplegic wheelchair in just a few days. With money left over from the wheelchair purchase, we were able to also buy a mouth stick (to self operate a computer), specialized air mattresses, and a hydraulic lift (a device used to help lift patients out of bed).
In March, 2016, we fund raised again to pay for Ahmed's stem cell treatment in China.
I am pleased to share some highlights from yesterday's prize giving event. I am grateful to all who came to share the joy for this momentous achievement. Congratulations to Salim, our third prize winner!
I also had the opportunity to speak with Salim's mother who is also a huge fan of reading and a regular member of the library. She is expressed her gratitude to everyone that contributed to the cause of opening a library in the neighborhood because we not only provide books, we also provide a safe place for children to spend time reading, playing games, and socialising after school hours.
"Our neighborhood had been transformed" she said.
A great thanks to all our Donge donors, our staff librarian Hussein Salim, and to all those prayers and well wishes from around the world.
